Microsoft Ignite

Client: Microsoft

Location: Auckland

Microsoft Ignite (previously Microsoft TechEd) is an annual conference for developers and IT professionals.  Hosted by Microsoft, it has taken place in several locations around the world. Avenues managed the complex event deliverables for 12 years in New Zealand.

Avenues Event Management were instrumental in a digital roll-out of printing name badges onsite to assist with reducing the time it took to register attendees on arrival.  With the help of equipment supplied by Satellite Media, attendees would scan their barcode ticket on arrival, which would pull up their data on the events software, indicating what category name badge they required, their t-shirt size, choice of delegate bag and other information unique to them.  The system automatically printed the name badge, it was applied to a lanyard, a wristband allocated and after a quick check of identification, the attendee was registered in under 20 seconds.

Incentives were given to pre-check in a day prior to the opening of the conference with spot prizes given at random to ensure the queues were minimal on opening day.  On opening day 900 attendees arrived 20 minutes before the keynote started and were registered in record time.

At Avenues, we like to tackle the challenges with a results driver approach.  We knew the issue with registering a large crowd in a short space of time required a mix of robust technology and resource to deliver a streamlined approach to a problem that had caused angst in the past.  We like taking on the challenging “stuff” and are active problem solvers.
